Mariah Carey’s secret to staying forever young won’t cost you a penny.
In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the iconic singer, who celebrated turning 56 in March (though she refuses to acknowledge it), playfully suggested that she doesn’t age.
“I don’t allow it – it just doesn’t happen,” she shared with the publication. “I don’t know time. I don’t know numbers. I do not acknowledge time – I have a new song that starts with that line,” she teased, referencing a track from her upcoming album “Here For It All,” set to be released on September 26.
Given her refusal to “acknowledge time,” it’s no surprise that Mariah Carey famously doesn’t believe in celebrating birthdays either.
During a recent appearance on the U.K. radio station Capital FM, hosts Sian Welby, Jordan North, and Chris Stark asked the superstar various questions, including her views on birthdays, in a lighthearted game show format.
“Do you celebrate your birthday?” asked Welby during the interview. “I don’t have a birthday, no,” Carey replied. “Anniversaries, yes.”
Jokingly, Stark added, “But if we were to meet up later, how would we know when?”
North interjected, saying, “It’s on Mariah’s time.” To which Carey responded, “Yeah, I would have someone call you and figure it out.”
Mariah Carey’s refusal to acknowledge time is not a recent revelation. In a 2014 interview with Out Magazine, she declared that she is “eternally 12 years old.”
She elaborated, “I don’t count years, but I definitely rebuke them — I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling.”
Despite knowing that her perspective may seem a bit unconventional, Carey is unapologetic. “Please put an LOL next to this, because people are going to be, like, WTF?” the singer shared with the publication over a decade ago.
While her mental outlook plays a significant role in maintaining her youthful appearance, Mariah Carey is also known for her personal lighting preferences and “diva” lifestyle choices, such as wearing glamorous gowns to fast-food restaurants like McDonald’s.
